“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139: 14
In an effort to support all the children in our church, especially those who are differently abled and to create an environment of inclusiveness, the Ascension Mar Thoma Church Sunday School initiated the “Stand By Me” project in February 2024. This initiative aims to stand by our differently abled children and their families by providing a more conducive atmosphere to worship as a community with no apprehensions.
Mrs. Cinu Philip, founder and trustee of Autism Residential Community, Vellore played a pivotal role in facilitating the arrangements for the service and her guidance is invaluable as we step into this new endeavor.
On April 14th, 2024 in connection with Autism Awareness month, we were able to hold our very first Holy Communion service for our differently abled children and their families, made possible only by the grace of God Almighty. The chief celebrant was Rev. Bibi Mathew Chacko. He was joined by Rev. Dr. K. Jameson, Rev. Biju P. Simon, and Rev. Jeff Jack Phillips Over 60 members attended the service including 7 families with differently abled kids. Shane Shaji received his first Holy Communion on this auspicious day.
With prayer and in faith we plan to start Sunday school classes for this group of children with guidance from Mrs Cinu Philip, who will soon be working on study material that we can use. We are grateful for all the support we have received from the Diocesan Episcopa, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos, vicar, Rev. Bibi Mathew Chacko and the church in this new endeavor and pray that it continues to be a blessing for many.
